By showcasing their work to a wide audience of potential buyers, these auctions provide a platform for these artists to gain exposure and establish themselves in the art world. The 600-passenger Seabourn Ovation carries 1,600 works of art from nearly 120 artists, while its sister ship, Seabourn Encore, has a similar number. Seabourn turned to Tal Danai, founder and CEO of art consultancy ArtLink, to source and commission all of the art for both. He and three curators worked closely with noted designer Adam Tihany, who led the design vision for the ships, to create a narrative to guide the project.

SAY ALOHA TO PARK WEST GALLERY IN HONOLULU, HAWAII!

This gives travelers a chance to preview the art, ask questions before an auction or just learn a bit more about art in general. Founded in 1969 by Albert Scaglione, Park West boasts some impressive-sounding sales numbers. Borotescu told us that the company operates on 100 cruise ships, and claimed that the art aboard the Navigator of the Seas alone was worth $3 million.

Our world-famous cruise ship art auctions are on over 90 ships worldwide on the following cruise lines

With his pleasantly urbane accent, Borotescu set his audience at ease, acknowledging that they probably never had the time to visit art museums and galleries. But they were here now, and it was his job to make sure that they went home with something they absolutely loved. The final step of the art collecting process is when that big box finally arrives at your home or office. This is the moment you’ve been anxiously waiting for, the one that began weeks ago, on a ship somewhere in Europe, Alaska, or the Caribbean. When you arrive at the auction, a cavalcade of color greets you excitedly and invites you to stroll past the array of vibrant canvases, intricate sculptures, and shimmering paintings on metal. No matter where art collectors experience Park West Gallery, the company strives to create an educational, entertaining and welcoming environment that sparks a passion for the arts in all.

Are There Any Themed Cruises Available on Disney’s Pacific Coastal Cruises?

Park West Gallery’s world headquarters is located in Southfield, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, on a beautiful 3.5-acre site, including a natural pond and sculpture garden. The classical Greco-Roman building houses galleries featuring artwork from renowned artists as well as a diverse collection from new emerging talent. It's a lesser-known aspect of cruising, but these lines are giving young and contemporary artists visibility and more paths to earn a living through their art. They're also surrounding passengers with original artwork, sculpture, tapestries, photography, and ceramics—enriching the cruise experience and creating moments of enchantment along the way. For example, Lisa Cornell of Weston, Florida, purchased art on a Princess Cruise in 2007 but alleged that the works she received after the voyage were different pieces.

The variety of artwork available at cruise ship art auctions is truly remarkable. From paintings and sculptures to prints and photographs, there is something for every art enthusiast. The gallery staff are knowledgeable and can provide assistance in finding the perfect piece. Immersing myself in the world of cruise ship art auctions allows for a unique exploration of diverse and captivating artwork. Auctioneers create a lively atmosphere, encouraging attendees to bid on their favorite pieces. The bidding process is fast-paced, with auction chants raising the price for the next bidder.

Soak in the bustling atmosphere and immerse yourself in the rich culture of this vibrant city. With various transportation options available, getting to the Disney cruise ship terminals in Miami is a breeze. In conclusion, a Disney Cruise offers a plethora of exciting destinations to explore. From the tropical Caribbean and the vibrant Mediterranean to the breathtaking Alaskan wilderness and the sunny Mexican Riviera, there is something for everyone. After exploring the beauty of the Pacific Coast, it was time to set sail to the Eastern Caribbean Gems.

In Rome, you can marvel at the Colosseum or take a leisurely walk through the charming streets of Trastevere. Santorini offers breathtaking views of the Caldera and the opportunity to explore its picturesque villages. And in Istanbul, you can immerse yourself in the rich history by visiting the Hagia Sophia or taking a cruise along the Bosphorus. That's not uncommon for cruise lines that know they have some advantages in how they display these works. When Ponant was building the 184-passenger Le Jacques Cartier explorer ship, they commissioned Paris-based graffiti artist Shuck One to create an ocean-and-nature themed piece on the raw steel of the ship. Then they covered it up—except for a secret porthole where passengers can catch a glimpse of the hidden work.

Carnival Corp., parent to Princess, ended up blacklisting Cornell from all its cruise lines. Cornell had to go to court again to contest the blacklisting and, in 2017, the lifetime ban was overturned. Auctions typically feature works by a range of artists from the masters of the Renaissance (like Rembrandt) to contemporary luminaries. While some may argue that booking a cruise can be expensive, it is important to note that MSC offers a range of options to fit different budgets, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The 6 types of MSC Cruises ships, explained

what is msc cruise line

Kicked off in 2017 (and still not finished yet!), if you’re looking for a modern mega ship like you may already be familiar with from other cruise lines, this class is the way to go. To satisfy its diverse passenger base, MSC offers accommodations to fit all types of travelers. Rooms include inexpensive inside cabins that sleep two people, midlevel staterooms with windows and balconies, and high-end suites that offer cruisers with larger budgets a private oasis in the form of the MSC Yacht Club. The highest experience level a cruiser can book on select MSC Cruise ships is the MSC Yacht Club, which is a suites-only enclave at the top of specific MSC ships.

Private Ports/Islands

If you're sailing solo, some MSC vessels offer cabins for one outfitted with a twin bed that converts into a couch. These interior studio accommodations are only available with the Bella package on MSC Meraviglia, MSC Bellissima and the line's World Class ships. Inside cabins — rooms with no windows — are available on all ships in the MSC fleet. Ranging from 140 to 301 square feet (depending on the ship), they make for great sleeping because they're so dark. “We want our guests to experience MSC Cruises’ most modern and innovative ships, whether they’re on a quick weekend getaway or the vacation of a lifetime.

Cobranded Cards

These days it’s usual to pay $16 per person, per day for these charges. Book a suite, and the charge is usually higher — closer to $20 per day. Norwegian Cruise Line, for instance, charges $25 per day for people in suites and $20 per person, per day, for other rooms. MSC doesn’t have a lock on cruise deals, but it does offer a lot of affordable choices. Rates are even less expensive if sailing outside of summer or holidays.

The ultimate guide to MSC Cruises ships and itineraries

Drink Package OptionsMost cruise lines have a single drink package… or maybe a regular package and a high-end package. A handful of ships feature Carousel Productions at Sea (similar to Cirque du Soleil), but not all. In our experience, the entertainment is more of things like a “variety show” featuring singing, dancing, and acrobatics. For instance, one cruise had a new take on Peter Pan that included contortionists, circus acts, and a juggler. Another show was a dedication to Michael Jackson, complete with an impersonator and full dance numbers. Evening Entertainment on the ShipIn a world where cruise lines are pushing the envelope everywhere to make your experience bigger and better, MSC is decidedly old-school in some respects — like your evening entertainment.

Meraviglia Class

This category of room consists of 2 or more adjoining staterooms and can sleep up to 10 people. This package is for adults 21 and older and includes drinks up to $6 each. This package includes drinks from the minibar and room service as well. You’ll also find restaurants on MSC that come with an additional charge. MSC’s private island, located in the Bahamas, is called Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. This private oasis has 8 beaches, a Bahamian shopping village, local cuisine, massage huts on the beach, and so much more.

In addition to these five giants, MSC Cruises also operates four large Seaside Class ships that each have a total capacity of 5,336 to 5,632 passengers. The other two Meraviglia Class ships, which date to 2019 and 2017, respectively, can carry more than 5,600 passengers with every berth filled. MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa and MSC Euribia, which debuted in 2019, 2021 and 2023, respectively, are a tad longer than MSC Bellissima and MSC Meraviglia and are considered a subset of the class known as Meraviglia Plus. They each can hold 4,842 passengers at double occupancy — 6,334 passengers if every last pulldown bunk and pullout sofa is filled. If you're a megaresort lover, you'll feel right at home on MSC Cruises' new World, Meraviglia and Seaside Class vessels, which rival the biggest vessels of Royal Caribbean and Norwegian for their array of onboard amusements. Then there's the MSC Yacht Club experience, mentioned above, which is the ultimate in onboard living.

Following Incident, Carnival Says Gambling ‘Strictly Forbidden’ Outside of Casino

MSC Cruises typically keeps vessels in its fleet for around 20 to 25 years before retiring them from the fleet. It can be hard to keep track, as MSC Cruises has been rolling out new cruise ships in quick succession over the past few years. However, it's a good thing to know if you're in the market for an MSC Cruises voyage.

explore our new ships

Like other megaship lines, MSC Cruises is known for big, glitzy theater productions performed in onboard theaters that are as state-of-the-art as anything you'll find on Broadway. Several of the line's newest vessels, including MSC Grandiosa and MSC Bellissima, also have the French cuisine-serving L'Atelier Bistrot. That makes them particularly appealing to families, including multigenerational groups. In short, the new MSC World Europa is like a giant floating version of the megaresorts you find in the Orlando area or Las Vegas, and it appeals to people who like a megaresort experience. The newest MSC Cruises ships are particularly known for being bustling, activity-packed ships.

Carnival vs. MSC: 11 Major Differences Between the Two Cruise Lines

Here's what you get when you book each of MSC's three experience packages, which determine the perks you'll receive on your sailing. About 285 miles away in Port Canaveral, Florida, MSC Seashore will offer a range of itineraries departing on Thursdays and Sundays. These include 3 to 4-night cruises to the Bahamas, which will call on Nassau and Ocean Cay, and 7-night Western Caribbean Cruises, which will stop at Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico and Ocean Cay.

In addition, each of the vessels has a large spa, casino, disco, outdoor cinema and multiple showrooms, lounges and bars. MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview can carry 4,132 passengers at double occupancy (5,336 passengers with every berth filled). In addition, each of the vessels has a large spa, casino, disco, theater and library with a pool table. The four vessels in MSC Cruises' Seaside Class feature layouts with lots of outdoor spaces for sunning, strolling and bar-hopping.

That makes them perfect for cruisers who want to get away from the sort of crowds that are on the biggest megaships without giving up too many of the amenities that big ships have to offer. At 92,409 to 95,128 tons, the four vessels in the series are barely half the size of MSC Cruises' massive Meraviglia Class ships but still big enough that they have a lot to offer. Not sure that you want to sail on a megaship with 6,000 people but still want a vessel with a good amount of features and activities? These are vessels that can carry as many as 6,334 passengers when every berth is filled.

Initially, after the ship debuts later this year, it will serve nearly 6,000 passengers at a time. Fun features include five pools, a large waterpark, the longest LED dome at sea in the promenade, and of course, all the other fun you’ve come to expect from MSC Cruises. New dining options for MSC Cruises on the ship will include a microbrewery, a restaurant with the first hydroponic garden at sea and a new Mediterranean seafood restaurant. For most of the ship’s life, it catered to European travelers sailing the Mediterranean, but, more recently, the ship has been sailing the Caribbean. Lastly, there’s the Seaside class, which includes ships that are about the same ages as the ships in the Meraviglia class. The earliest Seaside-class ship was MSC Seaside, premiering in 2017, followed by MSC Seaview and MSC Seashore.

These activities celebrate each destination’s local flavors and traditions. MSC Cruises has partnered with Martha Stewart to bring passengers special excursions and experiences. Whether you want to send a gift or try a new shore excursion, you can do with Martha Stewart style. If you’re traveling with a large group, check out the Family Stateroom options.

At 215,863 gross tons, MSC World Europa is the biggest MSC Cruises ship ever built and the sixth biggest cruise ship in the world from any line. And, of course, for the latest and greatest in all things sustainability, tech, family fun and luxury, there’s no better cruise ship to book than one of the three newest MSC cruise ships launching over the next year. The first LNG-propelled new cruise ship for the brand, the ship will offer the latest and greatest in water recycling and purifying, and newer, quieter motors will be less disruptive to ocean habitats. The ship will feature 13 dining venues, a 341-foot promenade with panoramic ocean views and a record-breaking, longest dry slide at sea.

Itinerary Southern Secret

doubtful sound overnight cruise

For those looking to refresh, there’s even a chance to go swimming. Your itinerary starts with a 45min-1hr cruise across Lake Manapouri, where you’ll hop off at the west arm. A coach then takes you across the Wilmot Pass, where you’ll travel on a sub-alpine road through dense rainforest.

Is there overnight parking for the Doubtful Sound overnight cruises?

In 1770, Captain James Cook (who Mount Cook is named after) sailed around New Zealand and stumbled upon this fiord. He decided not to enter it as he was doubtful he’d be able to navigate it with his boat. So, he decided to name it Doubtful Harbour, which is where we got the name Doubtful Sound.

Things to do in Fiordland

While we cannot guarantee you will see wildlife, sightings of fur seals are reasonably common in both Doubtful and Milford Sounds. A pod of bottlenose dolphins resides in Doubtful Sound so you have a good chance of seeing these fascinating mammals, and in Milford Sound dolphins are occasional visitors. In both sounds the rare Fiordland crested penguin can at times be observed. Despite it being the priciest thing we did in Aotearoa New Zealand, I am so glad we splurged on the overnight cruise of Doubtful Sound.

Is a Doubtful Sound cruise a good idea if you get seasick?

doubtful sound overnight cruise

The level of experience they had and the amount of effort they put in to ensure that everyone had a great time is unparalleled. My only complaint is that the whole cruise is too short. Escape to the peace and tranquillity of Doubtful Sound on a magical overnight cruise.

I’m glad we decided to do the overnight cruise as our first day on the boat was grey and rainy, which is typical for Doubtful Sound. But the most magical part of our experience was the next morning when the clouds lifted and we got to experience absolute stillness on the water. I would’ve been disappointed if all we got was three hours in the rain on a day cruise. We decided to do the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise (1 night) because it was the perfect compromise of time and budget. As someone who gets seasick, I didn’t want to push it being on a boat for two nights. The overnight cruise was already a pretty huge hit on our New Zealand trip budget, so we didn’t want to splurge more on the second night.

Whatever you choose, Fiordland Expeditions will ensure you have a fun and memorable time. Well laid out with two toilets, one shower and spacious lounge / seating area offering exceptional viewing from within. Kayaks are available for exploring close by, a dive compressor to assist with scuba operations & a selection of fishing equipment for catching an evening meal, are all onboard. 2 purpose built vessels are perfectly suited for all Fiordland adventures. Overnight Cruises, Small Group Charter, Fishing and Diving Trip or Scientific Research you will find our fleet well fit out and comfortable.

Welcome to Teaspoon of Adventure!

Infants (0-2yrs) carried free of charge if sleeping in a cot, otherwise child rates apply. Due to space limitations cots can be used in twin cabins only. The Fiordland Lakeview Motel and Apartments offers everything from studios to 3-bedroom townhouses.

Autumn (March to May) is a special time in New Zealand in general, since the Autumn leaves bring a little seasonal much of the country’s woodland. However, in Fiordland, many of the trees are evergreen. No matter – Autumn brings mild weather to Fiordland, although things begin to cool down towards the end of the season. After passing waterfalls, rivers, and scenic viewpoints, we arrived at Deep Cove, where the Fiordland Navigator was waiting for us. Read on to discover exactly what made my Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise experience so enchanting and unforgettable. We Dream of Travel is also a participant with other affiliate programs.

The rest of the time is spent getting there and back across Lake Manapouri and the Wilmot Pass. And while those are nice parts of the trip, it seemed like a lot of back and forth for not enough time on the fiord. Deciding what kind of cruise to take on Doubtful Sound comes down to your budget and your itinerary. If you have the time and cash to spare, and really want to experience as much of the fiord as possible, I would definitely recommend the two night cruise. If time and budget are lacking, the day cruise can give you a little taste of Doubtful Sound. Despite the Tasman Sea not sitting well with me, I still think a Doubtful Sound cruise is a good idea for people who get mildly seasick.

Marvel at steep mountain cliffs surrounding the deep waters of the Fiord. View incredible scenery, wildlife and waterfalls from the comfort of your vessel. This was such a wonderful experience from start to finish so, if you get a chance to do it, we would thoroughly recommend it. The trip organisation worked like clockwork and every one of the staff we met, from drivers to the crew, were great. Thanks especially to our principal driver, Paulie (it isn’t really fair to single any one person out but he was just so nice and helpful).

Doubtful Sound is located in the heart of Fiordland National Park where the mountains are still very impressive but not as high as Milford Sound. Doubtful Sound is three times longer and  has a sea surface area roughly ten times larger than Milford Sound. It is famous for its wilderness scenery and wildlife sightings. To get to Doubtful Sound visitors first take a launch trip across Lake Manapouri and drive over Wilmot Pass.

As the day breaks and the lines are dropped, the smell of fresh coffee awaits in the galley. As we cruise back to the wharf we take in the new day with the new light exposing different scenes; it’s a brand new day. Our friendly personable crew will do all they can to ensure your experience is the best we can make it. Our twin sleeping compartments provide the best privacy for travelling with your family and children. A twin room is a private room for two people with two single beds.

There is no ‘wrong way’ to see Fiordland, with the landscape transforming anew with each day or hour. I soon came to realise that climbing aboard the Fiordland Navigator was a gateway to more than just one mysterious fiord. In fact, cruising Doubtful Sound is like setting sail upon the waters of a thousand worlds at once. At this point, I must shout out Div, our onboard wildlife expert.

It also rains a lot here, so a few dry sets of clothes are definitely a good idea. The overnight cruise also includes a 3-course buffet dinner, and there’s a cash bar on board if you want to purchase alcoholic drinks to go with it. Overnight, you’ll stay in a private cabin with a shared bathroom, and you’ll be treated to a continental breakfast in the morning.

During the cruise, our knowledgeable and friendly skipper or nature guide will share with you their passion for the region. Awe-inspiring sheer mountain cliffs surround the pristine waters of the Fiords. An overnight cruise is an incredible way to enjoy the spectacular scenery and array of wildlife including penguins, seals, and dolphins. My favourite part of our Doubtful Sound overnight cruise was this morning. After breakfast we headed out onto the outside decks and I stayed out there until it was time to disembark. Yesterday’s rain was replaced with a slight wind and sun trying to peak out from the clouds.

You can get a bus there from Queenstown or i would recommend just hiring a car and driving to Manapouri. Would have like a little bit longer for the Kayak and swim but otherwise it was the highlight of our trip and would love to do it again. I did particularly like the moment when we stopped on the way back and were able to be present in our surroundings with no sound or human element. The guide was excellent and had vast knowledge of all the different aspects about the Doubtful Sound. Bed linen, duvet, towel and pillow are provided for both cabins and bunkrooms.

In August, the cruise season is in full swing, and multiple ships may be in port. With long, harsh, dark winters consuming much of the year, Alaskans like to party during the brief summer season. August cruisers should keep an eye open for free concerts, farmers’ markets and low-cost local sporting events in each port. These activities generally start around late June and are over for the season by early September. If you plan to spend time in Alaska before or after your cruise, take advantage of “midnight sun” activities such as late-night street parties and baseball games.

While they appear year-round, viewing them during the midnight sun is hard. Dall sheep may be spotted on higher peaks in Tracy Arm Fjord or Juneau if you take the Roberts Tramway. Choosing a balcony stateroom often allows for sightings of whales swimming along the shorelines of the inside passage. Watch for the flumes of mist from their blowholes with a pair of binoculars.

Cruisers who are veterans at Inside Passage itineraries on the big ships have really only seen a preview of the nooks and crannies of the region.

Cross Alaska’s massive ice shelves, crystal fjords, and fascinating marine wildlife off your bucket list with itineraries that conveniently depart from Seattle and Vancouver. Enjoy perks such as privileged access to Glacier Bay National Park and prime docking locations that give you a head start on sightseeing. Denali Park cruise tours are gaining popularity and allow travelers to venture inland, which contrasts significantly with the Alaskan coastal towns. However, since the wilderness lodges come with high pricing, these itineraries may not suit those traveling to Alaska on a budget. A cruise tour to Denali National Park is an option for those sailing from or finishing in Vancouver, British Columbia. In August, it’s the perfect time to explore a top-rated Canadian city before or after your cruise.

At first glance many mistake Victoria for an English coastal city or northern European town. Full of greenery, pubs and Victorian architecture, it's difficult to believe that this was a tent city full of rough and tumble miners just 150 years ago. On a cruise to Alaska, explore the Butchart Gardens, tour the pub scene and taste some of the local brews or sail the bay for a whale-watching adventure.

Sailing at the end of August gives a better opportunity to see them than at the beginning of the month. Wildlife sightings increase in the national park, with chances to see moose, caribou, grizzly bears, and wolves. Also, adding on a land tour to visit Denali, could allow for other animal sightings. I have seen them in trees, on poles near harbors, or trying to catch dinner during salmon runs.

Unveiling the Cost of Build-A-Bear on a Carnival Cruise

Determining the cost of a Build-A-Bear experience on a Carnival cruise is a common concern for families seeking a memorable activity.

Build-A-Bear workshops on Carnival cruises offer a unique opportunity to create personalized stuffed animals, providing children with a cherished souvenir and fostering creativity. The expenses associated with this activity contribute to its popularity among cruise-goers. Historically, Build-A-Bear workshops have been present on select Carnival ships since their inception in the early 2000s, adding to the wide range of entertainment options available to passengers.
